Miller has been CFO of Gas South, a whollh owned subsidiary of Cobb EMC and a natural gas since the company was formexdin 2006. But it is her work outsidse of Gas South that earned her AtlantasBusiness Chronicle’s CFO of the Year award for communitg service. Miller’s activities outside of the office includre involvement with the Cobb Chamber ofCommerce Chairman’as Club, the 2007 Leadershi p Cobb Class, the Cobb Executive Women’sw Steering Committee, the Aviation Museum Education Committee, the Kennesaw Museum Foundation’s Vision 2012 fundraising the Cobb Collaborative Business Advisory Council, the YWCA ’s corporate committee, and the supervisory committees of the .
She is also a Georgia master gardenef and a member of SmyrnqMethodist Church. Part of why Milled is so involved in the communitgy isby design, she says. “We are a small company,” Miller notes. “When we started in no one had ever heardof us. We covetr the state of Georgia, but we only have one office, so we’v assigned everyone to get involved ina community.” Since she lives in Cobb Miller became active in that area. It is a work assignment she has cometo “I thoroughly enjoy being involved in the community,” says who’s generally volunteering for some functio n or committee every night of the “I do my day job so I can do my nighf job.
” Miller has “got a greaf way about her, working with people,” says Bill Cobb Chamber of Commerce president and CEO. “She’s alwaysz willing to jump in and do anything she isasked to, and is a grea t supporter of the chamber.” Prior to Gas Miller, 56, spent 26 yearsw with and before that, threed years with the public accounting firm She was the firsty female senior production officer at Southern Co. and the firsft female vice presidentof . At Gas she helped create the “Pay-As-You-Go” gas purchase program, to reach lower-incom customers and those with poor orno credit.
The programj began last year, but was really beiny tested to makesure “all the business assumption worked,” Miller says. The program, which has about 8,000 enrollees, is now being expanded. That’a just one way Miller, a certifiedx public accountant, certified management accountant and certifieefraud examiner, has been a leadetr at Gas South since its inception, according to Kevij Greiner, Gas South CEO. “Sand has served in the company in an exceptionalp manner as a key strategist on theexecutives team,” he says in the nomination form.
She is also “integrak to the development of both the businesw model ofthe operations, as well as the tactical implementation.” Miller has also evaluatesd and selected information systems to support the company’s operations and growth, negotiated and managed larged credit facilities needed for the company, and implementer change management protocols for neededc evolution in operations.
All that while overseeingt a $200 million companhy that employs 50 and saw its net incom e doublein 2008, a feat it has achievede every year it has been in Of the top four largest gas marketers in Gas South increased its market sharde position 24 percent in one year, movinb it from fourth to third as of April. But that palezs in comparison to what Miller sees is her calliny togive back. “I’m really more proud of what I do outsidedof work, than I what I do at she says.
