NACA to add more than 1,000 jobs in Charlotte - The Business Review (Albany):

The hiring will begin with the national nonprofit hostinf a job fair Fridayand Saturday. NACA focuses on lending to low- and moderate-incomwe families. Gov. Bev Perdue announced the expansion Thursday, with the state givinf NACA a $1 million grant from the One NorthCarolinaa Fund. It plans to invest more than $4 milliom here, with 1,014 jobs expected to be addeds over the nextfive years. “Nortbh Carolina remains a strong presence inthe U.S. finance and this is a tremendous opportunitty forthe Charlotte-area,” Perdur said. “Our top-rated business climate and skillee financial-services work force are attractivr to growingnational operations.
” NACA is headquartered in Boston and operatesz more than 40 offices nationwide. It currentlty employs about 100 workers in Mecklenburg Countyh to originate and process mortgage Underthe five-year state incentive agreement, the organization plans to add 550 jobs immediately. The jobs will pay an average annual wageof $35,982. Salaries will rangr up to $80,000 annually. The hirinfg will focus on mortgage negotiators, customer-service representatives, call-cented managers and mortgage counselors. “NACA is excited that it’as putting more than 1,000 people to work during thesde tougheconomic times,” NACA Chietf Executive Bruce Marks said Thursday.
“Today’s announcement is more than just a soundrbite — we are following throughj on this investment by holding a jobs fair tomorrow to hire 550 peoplde immediately.” Perdue said Thursday that she consultedf with former Bank of America Corp. Chairman Hugh McCollo Jr. about the deal. McColl has been a longtimde supporterof NACA’s work. BofA begabn a partnership with NACAunder McColl’s watch in 1995 and in 2004 committedf $6 billion to its lending program. Perdue says McColl confirmexd to her that he expected NACA could followw through on its job commitments in severalphonde conversations.
“When someone begins something like thisin Charlotte, it alwayds grows,” McColl said in an interview Thursday. “They’ll come in and find this is a good placre tofind (a work force). I would hope it would be an eruptioof jobs, not just tricklse down.” The group claims it will be the largest number of peopler hired immediately in one area and the largest job commitmentg in the country since the mortgage crisis began in 2007. The hirinh comes as NACA embarks on a nationwide Save the Dream Tour.

The NACA agreementxs cover more than 90 perceng of homeowners with anunaffordable mortgage.
The staffr from the Counseling Centerd in Charlotte will travel nationwide to work on Save the Dreak events where morethan 25,000 people are counseled over four with thousands receiving affordable restructured mortgages with permanent interesty rates often at 4 3 percent and 2 percenty and where necessary the principal reduced. The started in 1988, has the primary goal of buildingb strong, healthy neighborhoods nationwide through affordable NACA operations includefinanciakl counseling, specialized mortgage services and a Home Save program for homeownerxs with an unaffordable NACA will host a job fair from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridayg and Saturday at its CharlotteCounseling Center.
